Into the South Korean football history, few names shine with the enduring brilliance of Osmar Ibáñez Barba. Simply known as Osmar, this Spanish defender and midfielder has etched an indelible legacy in the K League 1, amassing an astounding record around 300 appearances.


Donning the crests of Seoul's most popular clubs – FC Seoul and Seoul E-Land – he has conquered countless chapters of glory.


Currently, his story unfolds in the K League 2, where he defends the colors of the Leopards, a team under the guidance of manager Kim Do-kyun.


Since his arrival, the team has strengthened, driven by the ambition of K League 1 promotion. Having come within touching distance of this goal last season, finishing in a close 3rd place, the team, led by their captain Osmar, are determined to make it happen this time around.

Born in Santoña, Spain, on June 5, 1988, Osmar began his professional journey in the youth ranks of Racing de Santander. Following a period of development, he ventured into Asian football in 2012, signing with Buriram United of Thailand. His time in Thai football was marked by success, securing multiple titles and foreshadowing the quality and leadership that would define his career.


However, it was his move to FC Seoul in 2014 that proved to be a watershed moment.


Osmar became the first Spanish footballer to grace the K League 1, ushering in a new chapter for Korean football. His adaptation was swift, and his impact immediate. His defensive solidity, vision on the field, and ability to distribute the ball from midfield made him a cornerstone of the capital club.


Throughout his nine seasons with FC Seoul, he rose as an undisputed leader, eventually wearing the captain's armband and guiding the team to significant triumphs, including the K League 1 title in 2016 and the Korean FA Cup in 2015. His commitment, professionalism, and love for the club cemented his status as an idol for the fans, who chanted his name in every match at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.


Beyond the trophies, Osmar's legacy is built on his consistency and durability. He became the foreign player with the most appearances in FC Seoul's history, surpassing even club legends. His enduring presence stands as a testament to his exceptional career in South Korean football.




ollowing a brief loan spell with Cerezo Osaka in Japan in 2018, Osmar returned to FC Seoul before joining his new home, Seoul E-Land FC, in mid-2024.
