The Colombian-Portuguese forward Leonardo Ruiz left an indelible mark in the K League 2 of South Korea. In just two seasons with Seongnam FC, the Medellín-born striker has established himself as the team's main offensive reference, scoring 18 goals in the 2025 season. These impressive figures led him to join FC Seoul for the 2026 season.
Standing out in Korea
Since his arrival in 2024, Ruiz has adapted outstandingly to Asian football, a league that demands a combination of physicality, discipline, and goal-scoring instinct. His statistics with Seongnam are impressive:
2024 Season: In his first full year at the club (he joined in March), Leonardo Ruiz scored 12 goals in 32 matches in K League 2, becoming one of the most effective strikers in the league.

The Colombian player has surpassed his own record, having scored 17 goals in 39 league matches, establishing himself as a key figure and leader in the team's scoring chart.
In total, in the K League 2, Ruiz has accumulated nearly 30 goals in less than two years, demonstrating enviable consistency and the ability to take on the offensive responsibilities of a team eager for glory.
Forged in Colombia
Although he has found his best form in Asia, the career of Leonardo Ruiz—known in his early days as Leonardo Acevedo—is a story of perseverance and a journey through European football.
Having developed in the youth ranks of Atlético Nacional in Colombia, Ruiz made the move to Europe at a very young age. His time in the academies of FC Porto and Sporting CP in Portugal defined his development. In fact, he was part of the FC Porto B squad that made history by winning the Portuguese Second Division, a significant achievement that highlighted his potential.
Before arriving in K League 2, the striker accumulated experience in various leagues:
Portugal: He played in the top and second tiers with clubs such as Boavista, Sporting, Varzim, Estoril, and Rio Ave—the latter being his final stop just before his transfer to Seongnam.
Spain: He also had a stint with UD Logroñés in LaLiga2.
This international journey gave him the maturity and competitive edge he now displays while wearing the South Korean side's colors.
